If you are within 1,000 feet of a lake, pond (some wetlands) or flowage, and/or 300 feet from any other navigable body of water or in its floodplain whichever is greater, you are in a Shoreland area and special regulations regarding tree/vegetation that can be removed and how much vegetation can be cut apply. There are also special building restrictions that apply to the Shoreland area. Check the map to see if you are within the 1,000 feet. The shaded light blue area represents the 1,000 foot Shoreland area.
These restrictions are not new and there have always been zoning regulations for Shoreland areas, but legislation (NR 115) is currently being worked on to further enhance them.
